Once again, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville finds itself growing.

The university announced its spring enrollment of 13,267 students is the second-largest spring enrollment in the university’s history.

Traditional undergraduate enrollment has reached an all-time spring semester high of 11,022.

And while overall enrollment in state universities is down, SIUE’s enrollment has only declined by .52 percent from last spring’s total of 13,346.

Randy Pembrook, SIUE chancellor said the success of SIUE is a reflection of the SIUE community.

“The spring 2016 enrollment success is a reflection of the dedication, work ethic and creativity by those in enrollment management as well as the diligence of the faculty and staff in creating a vibrant, innovative and nurturing living and learning environment,” he said.

The largest enrollment increases were realized in undergraduate programs in the School of Nursing with 126 additional students, the School of Engineering adding 41 students and the School of Business adding 52 more students.

Scott Belobrajdic, associate vice chancellor for enrollment management, said exciting things are happening at SIUE.

“It’s exciting to see both record undergraduate enrollment and national recognition for new and innovated online programs happening simultaneously,” he said. “Our faculty are delivering new and exciting programs which continue to draw students interested in innovation.”

Recently two of the SIUE’s online healthcare programs were recognized as tops in the country. The online Healthcare Informatics Program was ranked as 25th best in the county by the website bestcolleges.com and the online School of Nursing was ranked as one of the best in the country by U.S. News & World Reports.

The enrollment report also noted that for the third consecutive year, fall to spring retention for the freshman class reached 90 percent.
