SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Student Assistance Commission is highlighting a big increase in college MAP grant funding that will help as many as 155,000 students.

$601 million in grants will be available in the new fiscal year that starts next month.

I-SAC Spokesperson Lynne Baker said that means more students will be able to receive the valuable financial lifeline to college.

“What this has done, this increase has done, is allowed us to be able serve virtually every eligible student, and has also allowed us to increase the amount of MAP grants next year by about 30%,” Baker said.

The grants will cover 42-55% of average tuition and fee costs, depending on where a student goes to school in Illinois.

“It is truly a way to improve equity and access for all of our students in Illinois, but particularly our low-income students,” Baker said.

The increase in MAP funding will also allow for high grant amounts.
