EUREKA, Ill. (WMBD) — Jamel Wright, Eureka College’s president, has received special recognition for her service to others.

According to the college, Wright was recognized by the Brown Foundation Community Development Corporation with the 2024 Joseph R. Biden Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award recognizes leaders who have dedicated their lives to others with more than 4,000 hours of service.

"I am honored and humbled by this recognition," Wright said. "My late mother was my role model and taught me that to whom much is given, much is expected and required. As a first-generation college student and the first woman and African American to lead Eureka College, so many people gave and give of their time to me, and I want to embody that habit of service for others."

As part of her service to others, Wright is known for mentoring women and youth, and she also has commitments to the many community efforts, boards, and initiatives of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Wright will be honored for the award at a gala in Memphis on Saturday.
